The material in this archive was recorded in September 1987 in Atlanta Georgia, where Mabou Mines held its first two week workshop to develop a fully gender-reversed production of Shakespeare’s “King Lear”.  The material was recorded with two (sometimes three) simultaneous video cameras. Over one hundred hours were recorded, here reduced to six. Every effort was made to do justice to the workshop process, so here there are wrong turns, breakthroughs, and spectacular results.

Filmed at the Theatrical Outfit,  Atlanta Georgia, September 1987.
