Look who’s working in the Mabou Mines Theater! The cast of “Barcelona, Map of Shadows” is here working on this new opera in development from Co-Artistic Director Mallory Catlett (@mallorycatlett) and composer Mikael Karlsson (@mika_karlsson), based on the play by Lluïsa Cunillé. “Barcelona, Map of Shadows” tells the mysterious story of the rented rooms in a rented apartment in an upper middle class neighborhood, and its terminally ill lease holder whose dying request is to be left alone with his wife. In 5 perplexing scenes, he and his wife ask their tenants – a French teacher, a second string soccer player/security guard, and an immigrant line cook – to leave, as a radio broadcast of Callas singing “La Boheme” plays intermittently in the background.

Our signature program is back! Mabou Mines` Resident Artist Program (RAP) offers NYC-based, early-career artists the opportunity to work in residence at Mabou Mines over four months to strengthen their practice and experiment with performance ideas. Resident artists receive mentorship, a stipend, rehearsal/performance space, administrative support, and technical assistance. The program includes monthly meetings with artists and mentors, which generate an artistic community through shared ideas in a forum-like setting. RAP culminates in Work-In-Progress Showings presented at Mabou Mines’ 99-seat theater at whatever developmental stage that is most useful to the artists. These showings are free and open to the public.
